The first real recommendation for technology to be used in healthcare came from the Institute of Medicine’s report in 1999 aptly titled To Err Is Human. The study found out that there were many preventable deaths occurring in hospitals as a result of foreseeable and preventable human errors. The recommendation made was that technology should be adopted in healthcare so that it can help reduce medical errors and prevent deaths and disability (Palatnik, 2016) Electronic Medical Records(EMR) System Essay. Later on, legislation made it mandatory to have especially the electronic health record or EHR system in every healthcare setting (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2017). This system captures, stores, and retrieves patient data electronically and more conveniently. The electronic health record system is a platform that has several components that confer to it its functionality. These components interface with one another and seamlessly enable nurses and physicians to deliver treatment and care in a coordinated way. Pros

E-Prescription and Adaptive Learning

Indeed, e-prescription is incorporated in the center’s EMR that is from the company called Athena Health. This is the computerized provider order entry or CPOE allowing prescriptions to be made by the physician and automatically sent to the pharmacy as the record remains in the patient’s electronic charts (Alotaibi & Federico, 2017). Incorporated Patient Doorway, Documentation, Image Management, and Internet Connectivity

The EMR has an incorporated patient doorway that shows the patent’s vital signs, the brief reason for the visit, and short candidate instructions. Unfortunately, there is no flexibility with the absence of Internet connectivity. When this happens, the system freezes and slows down considerably. On the brighter side, the EMR has effective documentation meeting all the needs as well as state-of-the-art image management capability. From personal experience, the benefits of this EMR system far outweigh the disadvantages. It has improved efficiency of services and prevented very many medical errors that could have occurred and cost patient lives.
